What this means for Romania

Romania is still starting from a relatively low base. EAFO reports 347,740 alternatively fuelled light-duty vehicles at the end of the second quarter of 2026, a category covering BEVs, PHEVs, hydrogen, LPG, CNG and LNG. In 2025, they represented only 3.58% of the national passenger-car and light-commercial-vehicle fleet. The gap with mature markets indicates substantial potential for electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and local energy systems. EAFO Romania, updated 17 September 2026

For companies, residential developments and homeowners, a charging station should not be selected in isolation. The rated power shown on the equipment does not reveal whether the existing electrical installation can simultaneously supply the building, a heat pump and one or more vehicles.

A sound design considers:

  • available capacity and grid-connection limits;
  • the site’s actual load profile and peak periods;
  • the number of vehicles and available charging time;
  • the choice between AC and DC charging;
  • dynamic load management;
  • daytime photovoltaic production;
  • the role of BESS in peak shaving and solar-surplus utilisation;
  • electricity tariffs and scheduled charging.

Vehicles manufactured in China: each model requires individual verification

The range of electric vehicles manufactured in China is expanding, but purchase price is only one part of the decision. European type approval, commercial and customs conditions, applicable countervailing duties, battery warranty, spare-parts access, after-sales service and compatibility with European charging infrastructure must be checked for each model.

Trade conditions may differ by manufacturer and model. In February 2026, the European Commission accepted a price undertaking for the CUPRA Tavascan manufactured by Volkswagen Anhui, allowing exports to the EU at or above a minimum import price and exempting the model from the countervailing duties applicable to battery-electric vehicle imports from China. The case illustrates why conditions must be verified individually rather than assumed for the entire market. European Commission, 10 February 2026

From a charger to an integrated system

The best investment is not necessarily the highest-power charger. It is the configuration that delivers the required energy without unnecessary grid upgrades, expensive demand peaks or overloading the electrical installation. Integration with photovoltaics, storage and intelligent management can increase self-consumption and make charging costs more predictable.

ECONERGY can audit the site, assess existing installations, design and install charging stations and integrate electric mobility into a complete system with photovoltaics, BESS, heat pumps and intelligent energy management.
